We’re proud to introduce Hyundai Digital Key 2 – the latest evolution in our BluelinkTM Connected Car Services, available now on the IONIQ 9 (with more models to follow). These smart features let you lock, unlock and start your Hyundai using just your smartphone – no key, no fuss[K1].

How to set-up your Digital Key.

On the infotainment screen, navigate to: Settings > Vehicle > Digital Key > Smartphone Key, then select Save.

On your smartphone, open the BluelinkTM App. Tap More, then select Vehicle Digital Key.

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete setup and add your key to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

  • Q Which devices/smartphones are compatible with Hyundai Digital Key 2 and Digital Key 2 Touch?

  • Q How do I activate Hyundai Digital Key 2?

    Open the BluelinkTM app on your phone, tap More, then select Vehicle Digital Key. Follow the on-screen prompts to add your key to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and complete setup.

  • Q Should I keep my smartphone on the wireless charging pad while driving?

    Only if you want to keep charging your phone. Once your vehicle is started, there’s no need to keep your smartphone on the wireless charging pad. If you're using Digital Key 2 Touch, you'll need to place your phone on the pad to start the car, but you can remove it afterwards. For Digital Key 2 with UWB, your phone can stay in your pocket or bag the entire time.

  • Q If my smartphone battery is empty, does Hyundai Digital Key 2 still work?

    Yes, Hyundai Digital Key 2 will work even if the battery of your iPhone, Samsung or Pixel device is empty. Depending on the phone model, you can still use the Hyundai Digital Key 2 function on your phone for up to 2-3 hours. It varies depending on the phone's battery performance, and we recommend charging as quickly as possible.

  • Q Will Hyundai Digital Key 2 still work if my phone has no mobile signal?

    Yes – as long as your Digital Key is correctly registered, it will work even if your phone has no mobile network connection.

    Digital Key 2 Touch uses Near Field Communication (NFC), while Digital Key 2 operates via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB). These technologies work independently of your mobile network provider.

  • Q Can I use Hyundai Digital Key 2 when I’m away from the car?

    No – Hyundai Digital Key only works when you’re near the vehicle.

    Digital Key 2 Touch uses NFC, which requires you to hold your phone against the door handle.

    Digital Key 2 uses UWB, which allows the car to unlock automatically when your phone is within approximately 1.5 metres. If no door is opened, the vehicle will relock after 30 seconds.

  • Q Do I need Bluelink™ to use Hyundai Digital Key 2?

    Yes – to activate either Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Digital Key 2 Touch, Bluelink™ must be activated in both your vehicle and your smartphone.

    However, for shared users, the Bluelink™ app is not required once the key has been shared and registered.

  • Q Can I share my Hyundai Digital Key 2 with others?

    Yes – you can share your Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Digital Key 2 Touch with up to 15 compatible devices, including smartphones and paired Apple Watches.

    Each device uses one shared key. For example, you could share your key with 3 iPhones, 3 Samsung phones, 3 Google Pixels and 6 Apple Watches.

    Sharing is only available with compatible smartphones and Apple Watches that support Hyundai Digital Key.

  • Q How do I share my Hyundai Digital Key 2 with someone else?

    You can share your Hyundai Digital Key 2 or Digital Key 2 Touch directly from your smartphone using your device’s wallet app – such as Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, or Samsung Wallet.

    Once shared, the recipient can add the key to their compatible device and use it according to the permissions you set.

  • Q What happens to my Hyundai Digital Key 2 when I sell my car?

    When you cancel your Bluelink™ account as part of selling your vehicle, all registered Digital Keys – including any shared keys – will be automatically deleted from the system. This helps ensure your vehicle access is securely transferred to the new owner.

  • Q I am having problems activating Hyundai Digital Key 2. What should I do?

    First, make sure you're using a compatible smartphone and operating system. You'll also need to have Bluelink™ activated in your vehicle and an active Bluelink™ account connected to the network.

    If you're setting up Digital Key 2 Touch, ensure that both physical smart keys are inside the vehicle during activation. This step is required for the system to register your digital key correctly.

  • Q Why can’t I register my Hyundai Digital Key 2?

    If you're having trouble registering your Digital Key in the Bluelink™ app, here are a few things to check:

    1. Confirm the registration status of your digital key on both your smartphone and your vehicle's infotainment system. 
    2. If your phone doesn’t show a registered key, but your vehicle does, try re-registering. Go to Settings > Vehicle > Digital Key > Smartphone Key in your vehicle. 
       
    • If the Register button is disabled, that means a digital key is already stored in the vehicle. You'll need to delete it before registering again. 
    • If the Register button is enabled, the vehicle does not currently have a digital key saved – you can proceed with registration. 

    For Digital Key 2 Touch, also make sure:

    1. NFC is enabled on your smartphone.
    2. Your phone case is removed (if applicable).
    3. Your phone is positioned correctly on the vehicle’s wireless charging pad during setup.

  • Q Why isn’t my registered Hyundai Digital Key 2 working?

    If you've registered your Digital Key in the Bluelink™ app but it's not working, try the following:

    1. Ensure NFC is enabled on your smartphone.
    2. Check your phone’s Bluetooth and GPS settings – Bluetooth must be on, and location access should be enabled for the Bluelink™ app.
    3. Confirm the key hasn’t been deleted from your vehicle’s system. If the Digital Key is still saved to your phone but was deleted from the vehicle’s navigation, it won’t connect.

    To check: 
    Go to Settings > Vehicle > Digital Key > Smartphone Key on your vehicle’s infotainment system. 
    If the Register button is enabled, this means the Digital Key has been removed from the vehicle and will need to be re-registered.
